N-Acetyl-Glucosamine (NAG) is the body’s precursor to hyaluronic acid, which is part of the synovial fluid that lubricates joints. NAG is produced in the intestinal tract via specialized cells called goblet cells that are responsible for producing the body’s mucin (or mucosal lining). Glucosamine is produced naturally in the body and it is a key building block for making cartilage. "The Effect of Cetyl Myristoleate and Adjunctive Therapy on the Course of Arthritics", published 1997, second quarter H. Siemandi, M.D., et al. A prospective, randomized, double blind study design was used to allocate 431 patients to receive Cetyl Myristoleate and a placebo. Results: At the start of this study, the duration, severity, and pattern of arthritic episodes were found to be similar in all patients. At the end of the study, it was found that the number of arthritic episodes were found to be significantly reduced, and the duration of episode-free time was significantly prolonged in the two Cetyl Myristoleate groups compared with the placebo group.

A 68-day 100 patient, double- blinded, multi-center, placebo-controlled trial on the fatty acid ester complex, Cetyl Myristoleate, shows that CMO may combat the pain and mobility challenges of osteoarthritis and may be a viable new option for osteoarthritis and related joint and health problems.
